I want to share it with others, and more importantly, I want to pass on the respect and gratitude that I feel toward the show. All of this is to say that I care deeply about this show. The memory of that very first visit led me to seek out the immersive theater community in L.A. Particular songs, smells, or even the décor in some hip speakeasy will immediately snap me back to 2011 and the first time that I experienced the show. One might even say my wedding had a subtle SLEEP NO MORE theme. I spent a summer working front of house on the show and sneaking into the space on my breaks. I’ve shelled out money that I didn’t really have in order to return to the McKittrick Hotel a dozen times since the show opened. Now, I don’t claim to be the end-all-be-all expert, but for the better part of a decade, this show has been a constant influence in my life. Still just as obsessed as ever, my friend had volunteered on the show by “fireproofing the apothecary,” a phrase that sounded completely ridiculous at the time, but is wholly impressive in retrospect.

A few years later, in March of 2011, SLEEP NO MORE opened its doors in New York. I can only remember tiny details something about Shakespeare, something about the show being staged in an old elementary school, and something about… dancing? I didn’t get it. I had never seen someone talk about a show with such fervor. This was poor service. In 2007, a friend of mine at NYU told me about an immersive theater show that they had seen in Boston. I called choice hotels to report this hotel but they did nothing to help me. She stopped coughing and slept well there. We walked out and stayed at the hotel next door. We had to make a tough choice for our child’s well-being. I am allergic to mold and I also experienced difficulty breathing. My young daughter with asthma could not stop coughing and said the air was hard to breathe and asked to sleep in the car. A tiny plastic bag was found in the nightstand drawer. I had to wipe down the head boards which had some sort of white substance on them. The shower door tracks were disgusting, looked like they had not been cleaned at all. The nice front desk clerk seemed to think this was a normal occurrence and offered us another room which smelled of smoke and had visible smoke burns on the comforter. The room had a large 2-3 foot space of water on the carpet from leaking AC. Outside and inside the building needs repair. Keep driving, do not stay here if you expect a clean healthy environment. I could go on - just don't stay there - it isn't worth saving a few bucks - stop earlier or drive further if you have to Leaving in the morning I had to use the restroom - check out the photo of that toilet - a huge brown water line - don't know when that bathroom had been cleaned. Couldn't sleep all night long (on top of the covers). You should see the stains on the mattress. I didn't take a photo of the worst - I lifted the bottom bedsheet (it wasn't fitted - just hanging down) and almost puked. Corners of the bathroom floor were dust packed - no one cleans the floor really well. The room - oh yes, the room - stains on the walls of some liquid.

The third floor carpeting was a series of huge horrible stains - God only knows what they were and how long they were there.

See the photos - the elevator was disgusting - hadn't been cleaned in months by the look (and smell) of it. This hotel is extremely filthy - DO NOT STAY THERE! My friend booked it because rooms were almost gone in other hotels and the prices were high (snow birds heading to Florida) but what a mistake.
